Welcome to the Grade 6CD : IDD Paths of Discovery Pages!

LANGUAGE AND CIVILIZATION

Introduction

"The Itineraires de Decouvertes - Paths to Discovery, also called the Bilingual Option provides grades 6 and 7 students an opportunity to study half the year in English and the other half in French. This programmes emphasizes the development of research, organizational, communication and cooperative skills as well as growing facility with ICT. The process of discovery, rather than the final product is the students' primary focus." (From the Grade 6 & 7 Curriculum Guide, 2007-2008)

This unit is designed for grade 6th - 7th students in cross-curricular areas of ICT, arts, language, music, geography, history and culture. This unit is intended to introduce students to the excitement of independent research in a field of their choosing, using the grand theme of "Language and Civilization" as their central focus.

Students will gain skills in analyzing, comparing, and evaluating information on their topic while creating a group Wiki. They will also will use books, email, the Internet, magazines, Power Point, and/or MS Publisher and a variety of presentation formats. Students are guided throughout by two senior school teacher, Julia Beck, (teacher-librarian) and Kathleen Hatchell (classroom teacher).

This site is being developed by the Grade 6 CD Bilingual Option. Students here are demonstrating their ability to understand and implement the many steps of the RESEARCH PROCESS. Their pages will change continually as they reflect on their learning - completion of this phase is expected to be at the end of the academic year.
