RESPONSE TO RESEARCH QUESTION

 

 -they live on the border of venezuela + Brazil

-Conflict with whites

-just recently were contacted and studied by outsiders

-little change over last 500 years

-in 1940's "whites" settled near the Yanomamo tribe and they observed items they never saw-robust dogs,steel tools,and kettles used for cooking

-after a while the "whites" left the yanomamo's

-yanomamo's regarded the "whites" as their enemies

-in some areas they attended mass, went to school

-starting in 1972 they went to las Esmaralda bording school-hair was cut, new names were given and they learned spanish

-villages have from 50 to 150 residents

-comon type of shelter: shabono

-men plant poles in the ground and weave thousandes of leaves

-strings or belts were worn around the waist for men

- the Yanomamo tribe lives in the northwest part of Brazil and the south eastern part of Venezuela

- firece and independant people war-like

- they are reported to have no contact with the outside world until the late 1940's

- their current population is estamated at about 20,000 people

- their population almost dissapeared during the esclavation of the Brezilianz and their gold and richess

- the Brezilians found new land 1991 and thought that since they had disovered it first(wich was not true) it was they'res.

- the yanomamo tribe hunts animals including juagwars and ocelots

- the tribe eat a large variaty of food consisting of fruit, meat and nuts

- the furr of the animals that they kill are used for beds instrument and many other things

- the tribe has lots of different spiritual belifes

- they belive that there are good spirits and bad ones too

- they also belive in mythologie being in humon form

- people in the tribes called shamans are belived to be able to make amazing contact with the super natural and cure illeness thought to be caused by different kinds of sourcery

- the yanomamo tribe consiste of very small villages

- over a long periode of time the allies of the Yanomamo tribe have become enimees causing groups to have dissigreaments

-they cultivate a variaty of different plants

-shamans use the  plants to cure the sick, and casting spells of misfortune

-to treat the sick these religious healers use sucking, massaging and several magical cures

-to cast a spell they attack what is considered the weakest part of the soul

-stealuing this part of the soul causes the victim to sicken and die

-when a yanomamo dies their body is creamated and the soul is supossedly realesed in several parts; one pat wonders into the jungle; while the central part travelson hammock ropes to an upper world,there they ask if they had been genorous our stingy during life, the stingy are sent to a place of fire and the genorous are directed to lead a peacful, mortal type exsistance

-the yanomamo bielive that the universes composed offour layers

-the first contact with anyone out-of the Yanomamo tribe was in 1920

- other names: Yanomame, Guaica, Guaharibu, Guajanbu, Ianomami

- In 1993 an estimated 23 persons dlied, mostly women and children from the active genuicide. 62% of Yanomamo tested for new straints of malaria introduced by gold miners wich have brought every conceivable disease known to modern man, from the common cold( Yanomamo have no immuniy to combatour most common aliment) right up to including AIDS. 

The Yanomamo are belived to be the most primitive, culturaly intact people in exestince in the world

-they are litteraly a stone age tribe

-cataloged by anthropologists as neo-indians with cultural characteristics that date back more than 800 years.

- They have never discovered the wheel.

-they  creamate the dead then crush the bones and drink it: this was inteneded to make their loved ones stay with them forever.

- They are one of the most succesful tribes in the Amazone rainforest to gain supperior harmony and balance with their envorement.

- David yanomami one of the worlds most respected "page" or medicine man fortells that if white men does not stop his preserve destruction of our mother eath, that the white men are doomed from existance.

-they wore minimal clothing 

 -gold was recently found in yanomamo teritory

-the influx of miners brought achoholism,and violence

-traditionally the women wore no clothing
