PIZZA!!

 

Pizza as we know

today,originated in Naples, Italy

-In 1889 a baker named Raffaele esposito created a special dish to honor the visiting king and queen of Italy, Umberto and Margherita

-The first pizza was topped with green bazil, white mozzerella cheese and red tomato sauce to reflect the colours of the Italian flag .

-Tomatoes, which had arrived from the west about 60 years earlier, were originally thought to be poisonous, but by Esposito's time they were already embraced by Italian cuisine

-Traditionally tomato sauce was put on pizza

-pizza was also topped woth mozzerella cheese and for herbs. it was topped with basil,oregano and garlic

-For vegetables, it was topped with tomatoes , bell peppers, asparagus , eggplant,broccoli,spinacholives,onions and artichoke hearts.

-For meat or seafood,some common toppings are sausages(especially perpperoni or salami) , ham, bacon, ground beef, anchovies,chicken , tuna, and shrimp.

-Other common toppings are mushroom and pineapple.

-Traditionally,pizza crust is plain, but it may be also seasoned woth butter, garlic, herbs or stuffed with cheese.

-The largest pizzsa that was ever made, was at the Norwood Pickin' Pay Hyper Market in Johannesburg, South Africa.

-The largest pizza according to the Guiness Book of World Records, was 37.4 meters in diameter and was made using 500kg of flout, 800 kg of cheese and 900 kg of tomato puree.

-The largest pizza was accomplished on December 8, 1990.

 

 

 

PASTA

 

 

 

-The word pasta comes from Italy.

-The english word pasta reffers to noodles and other foodsmade from a flour and water paste.

-The Italian term macaroni is used for the same product , especially when it's combined with cheese.

-A technique for makingm pasta involved modeling little fragments of dough with one fingers or palms and rolling it on a surface to obtain what would now be described with the term vermichelli.

-Pasta could have originated in Italy but a theory states that nomadic Arabs might have made and ate pasta.The different kinds of pasta are:

LASAGNA!!!

 

-The word "lasagna" is derived from the Greek word "lasanon" which means chamber pot.

- The word was afterwards used by Romans as "lasanum" to mean a cooking pot.

-Then, the Italians used the word to refer the dish to what is now a lasagna is made". Pizza

-In these times the word lasagna or lasagne (plural) simply applies to the food itself.

-The British (and Italians) mostly use the "lasagne" to mean the dish and the pasta while the Americans usually use the singular form, "lasagna".

-Many kinds of recipes mean many kinds of cheese, mostly ricotta and mozzarella.

-The classic Lasagna will only use only Parmigiano Reggiano.

- A lot of recipes add bechamel sauce.

-Risotto is a Northern Italian dish, and is traditionally prepared in a heavy bottomed skillet,

-It transfers heat to the food extremely well.

-Risotto is made form a certain sort of rice

-Italian Arborio (a fat, starchy, medium grain rice) is by far the most common used in this country to make risottos.

-Other rices that work well are Roma, Vialone, Carnaroli, Nano and Maratelli.

If using regular short or long grain rice, it’ll end up with sticky sushi rice.

-Risottos have been made in different kinds of cooking stocks.

-Cannoli originated in Sicily

-They are also popular in Italian American cuisine

-Traditionaly cannoli had a tube-shaped shell made of pastry dough, filled with a sweet filling usually containing sweetened ricotta chesse

-Cannoli ranges from sizes as big as your finger to a fist size proportion

-It was historically prepared as a treat during Carnevale season

-The desert eventually became an year-round desert throughout what is now Italy

-The version of cannoli is slightly different in America, possibly due to the adaptions made by Italians who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1900s and discovered the limited availibility of certain ingredients

-Tiramisu is an Italian desert typically made from ladyfinger cookies , espresso coffee,mascarpone cheese,eggs,cream,sugar,marsala wine,cocoa and rum.

 

-Tiramisu has become one of the most popular dessert, not just in Italy.

 

 

-The recipes been adapted into cakes ,puddings and other varieties of dessert.

 

 

-Nobody really knows where tiramisu came from.

 

 

-Some say woman in Grece made these deserts for their men during World War I.

 

 

-Another theory is Venetian woman made these to be shared with men during the Renaissance.

 

Others say that the desert wa a way of salvaging old cake and coffee.

-

 

BRUSCHETTA!!!!! yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

 

 

-Bruschetta originated in central Italy

 

 

-It was eaten during the 15th century

 

 

-It consists of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive

Description of Project

 

We are going to present our project in a movie. It's going to be a cooking show. Chantal is going to be the chef, Yvonne is

 

going to be the food tester and Kimberly will be the interviewer. We were also going to make a buffet consisting of 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, 3

 

deserts and a drink until the Canadian National Law advised us not to. We may also present a bristol board.

Girls, this is really well researched but due to the "exciting" presentation very difficult to read. Please change the font and colours to give the reader a sense that you value your words (the content) as much as the display.
